Lukas Grant – Prologue

Lukas Grant was back in Riverview for the first time in 4 years.   What would it be like he wondered. He had been gone a long time.  He had grown up here. Worked the family farm growing up with his father Steven and grandfather Thomas Grant.

At one time he had a few friends here.

Loved and lost a great love here. Elaine Joy……..

Elaine had dumped him after the prom for Hal Breckenridge. After  graduation, he had joined the Marines and left town for boot camp and the war in Iraq.

When his mother Mary died when he was 5, all he had was his dad and grandpa and the family farm. Things had always been hard on the farm. After his Grandpa Thomas died when he was 15 things really started to go down hill for his dad and the farm. The economy started to tank and his dad was left with a lot of debt to banks and federal taxes. Steve lost the farm when Lukas was 17 and that caused a lot of stress between them. Lukas loved that farm. It was all he knew. Without it he had no reason to stick around after Elaine dumped him.

His dad was devastated by the loss of the farm and Lukas’ sudden departure after high school graduation. Less than one year after Lukas left for the Marine Core, he got a notice that his father had died of a sudden heart attack. All he had left was his fathers gold watch and the family bible.

With 4 years of the Marines behind him he decided to go home. Riverview was the only town he knew. He had some roots there, and old love to look up and a score to settle.
