A Riverview Legacy Story – The Grant's

Lukas Grant – Chapter 1.1 – Home

My name is Lukas Grant. Riverview was my home and I hope to make it home again. It has been 4 years since I left and 3 years since my father died. A lot of memories, good and bad, fill me as I look around this town. My family farm is now owned by Luke and Ginny McDermott. Someday…..my family will own it again, no matter how long it takes.

I suppose my first plan of business is a place to live. My dad and grandfather taught me a lot growing up and I plan to build the house myself. The Marine Corps afforded me the ability to save some money over the last 4 years and I have accumulated 16,500$ to buy property and build a house. I know it doesn’t sound like much but I have a plan. There is a piece of property on Riverblossom Hills Drive that is perfect and I bought it sight unseen for 14,500$.

When I arrived at the property I found that the materials have been delivered so I can start building right way. I am using reclaimed lumber and logs that I have been able to procure from old family friends of my dad and grandfather to save money. There are also some flat river rocks that were available for a good price and I plan to use those for my foundation.

I spend my first week in Riverview building my house. It doesn’t look like much but it is enough for me. An a-frame house was the most inexpensive build I could do and was pretty easy to do by myself.  My first night in the house spent thinking about the past and mistakes and regrets. Tomorrow I will take a walk around town and take in the sites and hopefully find a job. Though building my house didn’t cost a lot, my bank account is looking pretty pitiful.
